DOGS ARRIVING SOON!

ARRIVING FRIDAY 18th MAY 2012
ROGUE & SCOTTY
BREED COLLIE TYPE PUPPIES
AGE Aprox. 11 Weeks
SEX Males
DESCRIPTION Black & White
DETAILS
Meet our little pair of gorgeous collie type puppies!
Like most puppies who come to DBARC for rehoming, they have been enjoying a wonderful start to their lives in the home of a dedicated fosterer. Nothing is too much trouble for our fosterers when it comes to caring for their guests: they shower them with love and attention, making sure they have the very best of starts, and this takes massive amounts of time and effort.
Just like any puppy of this type, these little darlings will need owners who understand that they are highly intelligent and active dogs who will need training school, training at home, and active, interesting lives, and who also understand the needs of a young dog.
Please read our notes carefully, and make 200% sure that if you are considering adopting a puppy, your lifestyle will accomodate that innocent little soul's needs, now and in the future.
In recent times we have had puppies returned very soon after adoption for what one might consider quite ridiculous reasons, for example because the puppy cried at night, or made a mess on the floor, or wanted attention(!) or was "lively". The people who took on, then rejected these poor little mites should really be ashamed of themselves. Yes, puppies are hard work, but this is not a secret! And the rewards of any relationship are in direct proportion to the effort you put in.
Our fosterers have already put a lot of work into puppies that come to us, and we match that effort here at DBARC. Please make sure you are not going to let down your new friend, or the people who have already loved and cared for him or her, and if you can't be sure, don't make a mistake that will cause an upset to young life.
Rogue and Scotty are brothers, and are typical collie puppies, very active and clever.
They are very well socialised with humans and other dogs, and are extra special because they had to be hand reared as their mother was ill after they were born, and unable to feed them.
Fortunately, she recovered and has been a part of their young lives, teaching them manners and maternal discipline, but never was able to feed them, so they owe their lives to their human carers.
It is really hard work raising effectively orphan puppies, so they have known great kindness and dedication, and we will expect their new owners to match this!
Please pay attention to the criteria listed below BEFORE considering coming to see any of our puppies
Please remember that pups are fun but also LOTS of work. They are a lifetime commitment, and will also be a lifetime of joy IF you raise them and train them right. So do not even consider having one in your life unless you are prepared to be completely responsible for their upbringing and also are the sort of adopter who will see any glitches as challenges rather than problems.
These little lives will literally be in YOUR hands, and it will be your responsibility to bring them along to be happy and well adjusted dogs.
You will also need to:
- Be able to give them the time and attention they need, and this does NOT fit in with a working life or multiple family commitments:
- Be able to offer a home without babies or toddlers as tiny members of the human and canine species rarely mix well!
- Own and to have read "The Perfect Puppy" by Gwen Bailey:
- Be ready for some sleepless nights while your puppy adjusts to sleeping in a new place on its own - puppies can cry very loudly!
- Understand that puppies are NOT housetrained - this is something YOU have to help them with, but until they are YOU will be cleaning up after them!
- Have established where you will be taking a puppy for training. Puppy socialisation and then Dog Training Classes are NOT an optional extra, they are absolutely essential, especially for bright and opportunistic pups like these.
- Have him or her neutered at 6 months of age, and be prepared to keep him or her fully vaccinated for the rest of his/her life
HUGHIE
BREED SMALL TERRIER
AGE Aprox. 2 Years
SEX Male (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION White & Tan
DETAILS
This fab little guy was found as a stray back in February, he had a very bad skin condition and was taken to the vet, where he was diagnosed with mange.
The Vet liked him so much that he decided to foster him so that he could also treat his skin, and he is now fully recovered. His fosterer found him to be a super little chap, and he has been living in the Vet's own home with very young children, with whom he has been delightful.
Hughie would have stayed there for good were it not for the fact that he is young, and hates being on his own. The Vet's wife is shortly to return to work after maternity leave, so Hughie would not have had company during the day, and he will need this in his new home.
Hughie is a little darling of a dog, and it is unusual to find tiny terriers who are so good with children.
However, his new owner will need to keep up the care and training if he is to remain the super little chap he is now.
BELLE
BREED COLLIE TYPE
AGE Aprox. 3 Years
SEX Female (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION Black & White
DETAILS
Belle was taken into a Vets by her former owner because she had been chasing sheep.
They decided this drastic course of action was essential as they were not able to secure their garden or supervise her when she was outside, or walk her on a lead when near livestock.
As she is in every other way a lovely girl, the Vet asked permission to find a rescue to rehome her instead, and so she has come to DBARC to find a new home where she will not be allowed free around livestock, as indeed no dog should be.
Belle has an extremely sweet personality. She has lived with children, and is good with other dogs too - but not good with sheep!
She is a lively girl, typical of her breed, so will need a home where her mind and body are exercised!
She will also need company most of the time.
MARTY
BREED COLLIE X TERRIER
AGE Aprox. 1-2 Years
SEX Male (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION Black & White
DETAILS
Young Marty was found abandoned in a very rural area: he had wandered into a farm yard.
Fortunately, the farmer kept him safe until he could be got to the safety of a rescue foster home.
Poor Marty has a docked tail which must have been done when he was a pup. He has a terrier type coat, and a happy, friendly nature with both people and other dogs .
Marty is a very active fellow who loves to run and play, so he will need a home where he will get plenty of exercise and some fun, and also be taken to dog training classes and he is an exceptionally bright dog who needs to use his brains.
He would be absolutely brilliant for Flyball (little height dog!) or Agility!
As he has no history, we would not wish to place Marty with children under 10 years, or with cats.
He will need company most of the time, as would any dog of his age.
JACK
BREED COLLIE TYPE
AGE Aprox. 2 Years
SEX Male (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION Black & White
DETAILS
Jack was found just dumped on the side of a rural road, where he sat patiently waiting for the miserable person who had left him there until eventually a kindly person took him to a place of safety, and he then went into the home of a rescue fosterer.
The fosterer who cared for him until he could come to DBARC says he is an amazing dog, absolutely oozing intelligence, and a pleasure to have around.
She says he can be a little wary of men when he first meets them, but soon assesses people and is then happy. He has beautiful manners, and is an adorable dog.
Because Jack has no history, we would not wish to rehome him with children under 12 years.
Because he is a collie, and a very clever one, he will need a home where he will have an interesting and active lifestyle, so dog training classes will be a must. He is sure to be top of the class!
He will also need company most of the time.
KELLY
BREED COLLIE TYPE
AGE Aprox. 2-3 Years
SEX Female (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION Black & White
DETAILS
Poor little Kelly was thrown over a wall into someone's garden which is a horrible way to abandon such a little beauty.
Anything could have happened to her, but fortunately the home owner came to her immediate assistance, and soon Kelly was taken in to a foster home where she initially had to be considered a "stray" but of course was never claimed.
Kelly fortunately suffered no physical or emotional damage from her adventure! She is a very happy dog & loves everyone.
Kelly is excellent travelling in a car, is well-behaved in the home, and very good with other dogs.
As we have no previous history on Kelly, we would not home her with children under 12 years, and we also do not know how she is with cats or small animals.
She is an active dog and will need an active and interesting lifestyle, and company most of the time.
TOWSER
BREED CROSSBREED
AGE Aprox. 3-4 Years
SEX Male (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION Black & Tan
DETAILS
Towser is a lovely little chap who has really known a hard life.
He was abandoned and spent over a year living rough in a very rural area, fending for himself while all the local people assumed he was someone's dog that they just allowed to roam freely.
But eventually it became clear that he was a poor, homeless boy and a kind person took him in and got him into the care of rescue.
Towser has been in a foster home with several other dogs for a few months to get him used to life in the real world again, and he has been a good boy with everyone, apart from at mealtimes when he will protect his dinner from other dogs, but that is hardly surprising as he had to forage so hard for food to survive his year living in the wild so if he is going to live with another dog his feeding must be supervised and seperate from other dog's food.
He can be wary of male dogs, and again, he probably suffered attacks in the past, but he has been good with the fosterer's dogs. He would do best as an only dog or with a neutered female companion.
He is lovely with people, very affectionate and adores attention. He has no history of living with children, so we would not wish to place him with youngsters under 12 years, and he will chase cats so no feline friends for this lad!
Towser needs a kind and loving home to make up for his sad, lonely life. He is a lovely and loving little dog, good in the home, and travels well in the car, and just longs to please and be fussed! He has spent long enough on his own so will need company most of the time.
GERTIE
BREED SPANIEL CROSS COLLIE
AGE Aprox. 18 Months
SEX Female (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION Black & White
DETAILS
Gertie was found very stressed running in and out of the road and shops, obviously looking for someone but sadly, no one was looking for her.
She had obviously been abandoned, but was treated as a stray to give an owner time to claim her, but of course this didn't happen.
Gertie is a lovely, friendly girl, and a very pretty one too! She is good with people, and with other dogs. She is OK with cats in the house but looks to chase them outside although she does nothing if they stand their ground, but therefore should only be rehomed with cats that are very confident and used to dogs.
Gertie walks on the lead, but is still a bit erratic so could do with some further training, as one would expect with a dog of her age.
Gertie would love a family that is active, she is a very gentle dog with lots of love to give and is a clever, interactive girl who loves to learn.
As she has no history, we would not wish to rehome her with children under 10 years. She will need company most of the time as would any dog of her age.
TED
BREED TERRIER TYPE
AGE Aprox. 2 Years
SEX Male (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION White & Tan
DETAILS
Poor little Ted was facing a sad end as an unwanted stray in a dog pound when he luckily came to the attention of an animal welfare fosterer, who took him out of the pound and into her home to save his life until he could come to DBARC to find a permanent loving home.
Ted is a lovely little chap, good with people, with cats once he gets to know them (he will bark at new cats) and good with other dogs, although his terrier personality does mean that he will stand his ground if another dog has a go at him! He needs an owner who understands this aspect of terrier temperament.
All Ted asks for is someone to love him and to give him lots of fun! He is a busy little dog who loves to play ball, and will need an active home, and company most of the time.
As he has no history with children, we would not wish to rehome him with youngsters under 10 years.
OLLIE
BREED TERRIER TYPE
AGE Aprox. 2 Years
SEX Male (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION Black & Tan
DETAILS
Little Ollie is a really lovely lad.
He was originally found as a stray last summer, and his finder fell in love with him and decided to keep him after his claiming time was up.
He has lived as a family pet with his owner's small Yorkie, and been as good as gold, but unfortunately he has become increasingly frightened by the attentions of his finder's young child, and so it became necessary for Ollie to come into rescue to find a new home before this fear got him into trouble.
Because of his experiences, we would not wish to rehome Ollie with children under 12 years, or to a home where young children visit as this poor lad has had enough of youngsters and just wants to keep away from them!
Ollie has very good manners in the home, and walks well on the lead. He is a loving, happy little dog - apart from when scary little children persecute him! Ollie loves to be busy, so will need an active life and company most of the time.
ALI
BREED BOXER
AGE Aprox. 3 Years
SEX Female (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION Red & White
DETAILS
Ali is a beautiful Boxer girl who is only looking for a home because her owner has emigrated in order to find work.
Ali has been well cared-for and has had a happy life, but she is a cheerful and extrovert dog who has not seemed to be traumatized by the departure of her owner!
She has been in a foster home with several other dogs, with whom she got along extremely well, and she just loves everyone, so should settle well in a new home.
She has not lived with children, and because she is a typical Boxer and therefore quite bouncy, we would not wish to place her with children under 12 years.
Ali walks well on the lead, has a good recall and all round nice manners, but like most Boxers, she is quite lively and so will need an owner who enjoys lots of walks, and who will be able to give her lots of fun!
She has been used to having someone around most of the time, so will need company, and will certainly NOT suit someone looking for a quiet companion, as she will not stay the pleasant character she is now if she is not given what she needs in terms of exercise and sensible handling.
