BREED COLLIES
AGE 1 - 2 Years
SEX Female & Male (Neutered)
DESCRIPTION Black & White
DETAILS We have had a fantastic Christmas and New Year with our foster family! We have been playing with all the other dogs, and have had such fun Best of all, we got to be part of a family - and then we both knew that what we really wanted was a family of our own to care for us Our foster mum, who's very experienced with collie dogs like us watched us socialising with her own dogs, and realised that although Marc & I love each other very much, we didn't need each other to be happy - in fact I preferred to be playing with the other dogs and Marc preferred to be following our foster mummy around waiting for a fuss! So the very hard decision was taken that we should be homed to separate families as we actually wanted different types of home I wanted an active home with somebody who would keep my very, very active brain occupied - Marc needed a special home with somebody who was going to shower him with lots of love and affection (not difficult as he is such a darling) And guess what - we have both found just that!!! YES - IT'S REALLY TRUE - both Marc & I have found our forever home with loving families and are getting on very well! We are so grateful to everybody at DBARC for taking such good care of us. We have made loads of friends and look forward to going back to DBARC to say hello to everybody when we are settled with our new family A big THANK YOU to everybody we have met on our search for our forever homes - we will never forget any of you Loads and loads of Love, Licks and Wags Marc & Cleo XXX

NAME JACK
SPECIES DOG
BREED GERMAN SHEPHERD
ARRIVAL DATE 11th January 2000
ORIGIN Abandoned and brought in by RSPCA
CONDITION Emaciated with serious hair loss and ulceration of head and body. Severe infection in both ears. Wounds to tail and rear of body. Excellent with humans, but violent aversion to all other dogs, attributed, by veterinary opinion, to the fact that Jack had probably been trained for dog fighting.
PROGRESSION Jack re-homed and restored to full physical health. Is now an extremely loving and well-behaved house dog, who totally ignores cats, sheep and squirrels, but retains an extreme hostility to all dogs, although he does seem gradually to be accepting that some other dogs may have a limited right to walk in his beloved Cantley Field at Wokingham.

NAME NALA
SPECIES DOG
BREED GERMAN SHEPHERD
ARRIVAL DATE 3rd December 2001
ORIGIN Caught by local dog warden in Wargrave after roaming for over a week.
CONDITION Generally good health although very overweight. She was extremely frightened of people and very defensive. She refused to come out of her kennel for two days, after which she chose two members of staff to trust and remained wary of everyone else.
PROGRESSION After a year at the rescue centre she was adopted by a member of staff and is now living comfortably with her. She is now much happier with people she knows including the staff member's 3 year old nephew. To those she trusts she is a loving and soppy lap dog!

NAME SOX
SPECIES CAT
BREED DOMESTIC SHORT HAIRED TABBY
ARRIVAL DATE 13/8/1997
ORIGIN Taken in after death of owner
CONDITION About 5 years old in good health and with full veterinary record.
PROGRESSION After five months at Rescue Centre, Sox was settled happily in a new home.

NAME MILLIE
SPECIES DOG
BREED GERMAN SHEPHERD
ARRIVAL DATE 01/01/2000
ORIGIN Found abandoned in Wokingham Town Centre by local authority animal warden
CONDITION About 6 months old, ill and in a very weak condition.
PROGRESSION Millie was too weak to withstand an infection she was carrying on arrival and, despite the best veterinary efforts, died on the 14th January 2000.

NAME ABBEY
SPECIES CAT
BREED BLACK & WHITE, DOMESTIC SHORT-HAIR
ARRIVAL DATE 16/06/2000
ORIGIN Unwanted pet
CONDITION Thin and ungroomed. No veterinary or inoculation history. Required de-worming.
PROGRESSION Given necessary inoculations and other treatments which resulted in a most acceptable improvement in condition. Re-homed in September 2000 and now living most contentedly with new family in Lower Earley.

NAME BUSTER
SPECIES DOG
BREED CROSS BREED
ARRIVAL DATE April 2001
ORIGIN Buster's owner, an elderly lady, was obliged to spend a lengthy period in hospital and could not afford to kennel Buster and her two cats. Social Services therefore asked if we would care for the animals during her incapacity.
CONDITION The three animals were in excellent condition, but Buster was particularly unimpressed with the facilities offered by his new accommodation and, to put it mildly, did not hesitate to express his indignation.
PROGRESSION After a period of seven months, the lady was finally in a position to have her animals home again and a delighted Buster returned to the loving comfort of his home without even a backward glance.

NAME NINA
SPECIES DOG
BREED GERMAN SHEPHERD
ARRIVAL DATE 26th July 2003
ORIGIN Taken in via RSPCA after owner unable to afford to keep
CONDITION Very thin and with a very bad flea infestation giving her severe skin irritation. She was previously homed through another rescue centre in February in a poor condition, and the new owners were unable to afford the veterinary treatment she needed.
PROGRESSION Nina has found a loving home in Dorset. She now has a doggie sister to play with, and really enjoys her walks. She has settled in extremely well with her new family, who really love her to bits. Her only hang-up is that she is a real thief when it comes to food!
NINA AND HER NEW MUM - A REAL SUCCESS STORY!!

NAME RASCAL
SPECIES Member of the weasel family, Mustelidae
BREED ALBINO FERRET
ARRIVAL DATE 3rd June 2002
ORIGIN Unknown
CONDITION About 2 years old, in good condition
PROGRESSION Rascal spent some 3 years living at our sanctuary, never being fortunate enough to find a new home. He then acquired a friend, another albino ferret called Kevin and the duo quickly became inseparable. In the summer of 2003, two lovely local people became infected with what Claire describes as "the ferret bug" and kindly gave Rascal and Kevin a truly loving home. It seems perhaps Claire's description might have been reasonably accurate as they subsequently adopted five more ferrets from the sanctuary. Rascal has, unfortunately, been very ill recently, but the determination, nursing and tender loving care of Liz and Tony have ensured that he's now well on the way to recovery.

NAME JET
SPECIES Member of the weasel family, Mustelidae
BREED FERAL POLECAT, cousin to the domesticated ferret
ARRIVAL DATE 25th August 2002
ORIGIN Found unconscious by roadside in Oxfordshire
CONDITION Diagnosed as suffering severe dehydration, malnutrition and anaemia with severe infestation of ticks and ear-mites.
PROGRESSION Veterinary treatment, followed by six weeks of TLC at home with Claire, a volunteer with specialist knowledge, restored Jet to good health, but left the problem of finding a suitable habitat. Marwell Zoo put us in touch with Lesley, a lady specialising in returning polecats to the wild and, astonishingly, Jet's most unusual dappled hind quarters identified her as a kit born in Lesley's care. Jet had truly arrived home and was re-released into Lesley's local habitat in December 2002.

NAME OLIVER
SPECIES Dog
BREED A gentleman of mixed parentage
ARRIVAL DATE April 1999
ORIGIN Stray found by the local authority Animal Warden. Oliver had been the constant companion of an elderly tramp for many years and had taken to the road in solitary fashion when the old man died.
CONDITION Oliver bore the marks of many road adventures, but was in robust good health for a dog aged about 13 years.
PROGRESSION With his rather scarred looks, lack of house training and, it must be said, his somewhat uncertain temperament, it was never going to be easy to find Oliver a home and we all accepted the sanctuary had a permanent resident. Oliver quickly realised he'd found his dream retirement home where there was adequate food, lots of friends and tender care and Diana's comfortable hearth to retire to when he felt like a nap. He lost no time in establishing himself as "top-dog" and lived happily in such blissful retirement until his death in 2003.
NAME FERGIE
SPECIES VULPES VULPES
BREED FOX
ARRIVAL DATE 29th May 2001
ORIGIN Found injured alongside A321 and brought into the Rescue Centre by a passing motorist.
CONDITION Multiple lacerations to left hind side and shock
PROGRESSION After appropriate veterinary treatment, the fox recovered sufficiently to be released back into its natural habitat, close to where it had been found.
