BUSTER
Please read our Homing Criteria BEFORE applying for any of our dogs.
BREED: Collie Cross
SEX: Male (Neutered)
AGE: Aprox. 18 months
SIZE: Medium/Large (17kg)
Buster was surrendered for rehoming along with his brother, from a family home where he was no problem at all with the resident children, but where the two dogs would become over excited when other children visited and boisterous play was going on. This was causing problems locally, so the decision was made to rehome the dogs. We feel that the dogs will be better rehomed singly and to an adult home. Collies are naturally a high energy breed, and one can easily imagine that two young dogs and a bunch of young children is likely to be an unworkable situation! On their own, both dogs are really just typical lively youngsters and will make great companions in caring and sensible hands.
Buster has not lived with cats or small pets/ He has of course been used to living with his brother, and would happily live with an older and steady dog, ideally a settled neutered female. For obvious reasons we do not wish to rehome him with children under 10 years as although he really likes children, he might again be too playful and bouncy around them.
Buster is an energetic and intelligent dog so he will need an active and interesting lifestyle, and would enjoy a dog sport such as Agility or Flyball. He will need company most of the time as he has not been used to being left on his own.
When a dog moves into a new home, they need time and consideration to help them feel confident and settled. They are having to adjust to a totally different environment, with new people and new challenges, and when one adopts a rescue dog, one must be ready to help them through not just the first few days, but for as long as it takes for them to feel comfortable in their new life. They are relying on their new owners to teach them the house rules and all about the new world they are living in. They are likely to need and benefit from dog training classes, and may also need behavioural help and the adopter may need to seek professional advice. If you are considering adopting, please be very sure that you are committed to the needs of your new friend, as they will be relying on you and their life and happiness is literally in your hands. This will last for their lifetime, so please also take an honest look at your age and activity levels and ensure that you are likely to be able to meet their ongoing needs.
