Please read our Homing Criteria BEFORE applying for any of our dogs.

BREED: Collie Cross
SEX: Male (Neutered)
AGE: Aprox. 1 Year
SIZE: Medium (13kg)

Fred is a lovely and very handsome collie type who was handed into a dog pound as a stray and never reclaimed. He can be a little timid at first as he has probably been quite traumatised by his recent past, but is very gentle and just needs kind and empathic handling while he is introduced to new people. He is going to be one of those very loyal dogs and will make a great companion.

Fred has no long term history, so we would not wish to place him with youngsters under 10 years. We do not know if has met cats or small pets. He has been very good with other dogs while in rescue care and this will be best maintained by socialising him with reliably friendly and calm dogs and by attending dog training classes which will also be important in helping him to catch up on early training that he may have missed.

Fred is a very intelligent dog so will need a lifestyle where he gets to use his bright collie brain as well as plenty of physical exercise. He will need company most of the time.

When a dog moves into a new home, they need time and consideration to help them feel confident and settled. They are having to adjust to a totally different environment, with new people and new challenges, and when one adopts a rescue dog, one must be ready to help them through not just the first few days, but for as long as it takes for them to feel comfortable in their new life. They are relying on their new owners to teach them the house rules and all about the new world they are living in. They are likely to need and benefit from dog training classes, and may also need behavioural help and the adopter may need to seek professional advice. If you are considering adopting, please be very sure that you are committed to the needs of your new friend, as they will be relying on you and their life and happiness is literally in your hands. This will last for their lifetime, so please also take an honest look at your age and activity levels and ensure that you are likely to be able to meet their ongoing needs.
