BREED: Westie
SEX: Male (Neutered)
AGE: Aprox. 10 Months
SIZE: Small/Medium (7 Kg)

Fred is a lovely youngster who has been in the care of the rescue for nearly three months now, but has not been available for rehoming until now because on arrival he was seen to be limping on one hind leg. It was discovered he had a problem with one of his hips (avascular necrosis of femoral head and neck {previously called Legg Perth Disease}). This meant he needed an operation to have the head of his femur removed which our wonderful vet sorted.

After intensive post-operative care and physiotherapy, Fred was lucky enough to be taken into the home of some very experienced fosterers who were able to continue his home physio exercises, and also teach him all about living in a home, how to interact happily and playfully with lots of other dogs and lots of people, to go out and about for exciting walks, and to understand all about love! Now Fred is at last ready to find a loving, permanent home.

Fred is a very playful and happy little chap who will need to be rehomed with another friendly and well-socialised dog to continue his canine education, as well as an adopter who is ready, willing and able to continue the training that all dogs his age need, and to continue to expand his experiences of the wider world. He is a very sweet and loving dog, but also a very intelligent one who will love to learn, and as he is an active dog both physically and mentally, he will not suit someone looking for a quiet companion.

Fred has not lived with children and since lively young terriers and lively young people can form a volatile combination, we would not wish to rehome him with youngsters under 10 years. He has not lived with cats or small pets. He is very happy with other dogs and, as we have said, will need to be rehomed with another dog. As with any dog his age, he will need further training, plenty of mental stimulation, and lots of love -which he will retrun many times over! He will neeed company most of the time.

When a dog moves into a new home, they need time and consideration to help them feel confident and settled. They are having to adjust to a totally different environment, with new people and new challenges, and when one adopts a rescue dog, one must be ready to help them through not just the first few days, but for as long as it takes for them to feel comfortable in their new life. They are relying on their new owners to teach them the house rules and all about the new world they are living in. They are likely to need and benefit from dog training classes, and may also need behavioural help and the adopter may need to seek professional advice. If you are considering adopting, please be very sure that you are committed to the needs of your new friend, as they will be relying on you and their life and happiness is literally in your hands. This will last for their lifetime, so please also take an honest look at your age and activity levels and ensure that you are likely to be able to meet their ongoing needs.
