OZZIE
Please read our Homing Criteria BEFORE applying for any of our dogs.
BREED: Spaniel Cross
SEX: Male (neutered)
AGE: Aprox. 1-2 Years
SIZE: Medium
Ozzie was a failed gundog, but his former owner was then reported to the authorities for abusive behaviour towards this poor young dog, and Ozzie was legally confiscated from their care to be signed over to rescue. Although Ozzie has certainly seen the less pleasant aspects of human nature, he has totally forgiven people, put his past behind him and just wants to be friends with everyone! As a former "working" dog he has a partially docked tail but this absolutely never stops wagging, and he also has a typically busy spaniel personality.
Ozzie has not lived with children, so we would not wish to place him with youngsters under 10 years. He has not lived with cats or small pets. He has been good with other dogs while in rescue, although he can be wary of large and boisterous dogs.
Ozzie will do best with someone who is used to active spaniel types and who will help him to continue to build his confidence with training and empathic handling. He is a very active dog so will need lots of walks and lots of fun, and lots of cuddles! He will need company most of the time.
When a dog moves into a new home, they need time and consideration to help them feel confident and settled. They are having to adjust to a totally different environment, with new people and new challenges, and when one adopts a rescue dog, one must be ready to help them through not just the first few days, but for as long as it takes for them to feel comfortable in their new life. They are relying on their new owners to teach them the house rules and all about the new world they are living in. They are likely to need and benefit from dog training classes, and may also need behavioural help and the adopter may need to seek professional advice. If you are considering adopting, please be very sure that you are committed to the needs of your new friend, as they will be relying on you and their life and happiness is literally in your hands. This will last for their lifetime, so please also take an honest look at your age and activity levels and ensure that you are likely to be able to meet their ongoing needs.
